Virginia Sondergeld
Chair of the Board

As the Chair of the Board, Virginia leads WiE’s strategic development by guiding new ideas and activities, and coordinating our organisational processes.

Virginia is a PhD candidate at the Berlin School of Economics since 2019. Previously she gained 3 years of experience in economic consulting as an Economic Analyst at NERA Economic Consulting, focusing on the economics of energy and infrastructure markets. Virginia holds an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and a BSc in Economics and Business Administration from the Goethe University, Frankfurt.

Eva Schönwald
Vice Chair of the Board

As the vice chair of the board, Eva coordinates WiE’s work streams and leads its strategic outreach by engaging academic, business and broader community supporters in our work. She is also part of WiE's editorial team, writing and editing articles for WiE's homepage and newsletter.

Eva studied economics at the University of Mannheim and the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics. She is currently a quantitative researcher at the What Works Centre for Social Care in London, focusing on impact evaluations. Her wider fields of interest include redistribution and inequality, as well as development economics. 

Iakov Frizis
Chief Editor

As a chief editor at WiE, Iakov is responsible for planning, coordinating and editing, WiE outputs and communications. In addition to this, Iakov is an active member of the WiE research team with a focus on survey development and the use of online and social media analytics. 

He has a Master in Economics from Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and a Master in International Economic Policy from Sciences Po Paris. He is currently working for PwC Luxembourg as a Public Sector Senior Associate. Iakov is also an external expert for the Center for Social and Economic Research in Warsaw, where his main contributions are in the fields of institutional, fiscal and gender economics.  

Jess Palka
Chief Editor

As a chief editor, Jess is responsible for planning, researching, coordinating, editing, and publishing information for the newsletter and the website.

She completed a BComm in Economics and International Relations (Hons) at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia.  Jess is currently completing a MA in Development and Governance at the University of Duisburg-Essen, as well as working as a research assistant with the German Development Institute in Bonn and for the Chair of Political Science at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

 

Larissa Fuchs
Head of Finance & Funds

As the head of finance and funds, Larissa is responsible for overseeing the financial management of WiE.

Larissa is a doctoral student at the Chair of Economics: Design and Behavior at the University of Cologne. Her research interests include algorithmic fairness in recruiting processes together with candidate select, human capital and labor market related topics. Other research interests include the field of applied microeconomics and gender economics. She received her MSc in Economics from the University of Bonn and BSc in Economics and Business Administration from the Goethe University, Frankfurt.  After her masters degree she gained experience as a consultant for banking regulation and digital transformation at Q_Perior.

Philip Hansprach
Head of Research

Philip is the head of research at WiE, is based in Berlin and currently working in NERA Economic Consulting’s European competition practice.

He received a BSc in Economics from the University of Bonn and a Master in Economics from the Toulouse School of Economics. His professional interests include industrial organisation, empirical methods and competition policy.

 

Yun Ma
Head of Marketing

Yun is the head of marketing at WiE and is therefore responsible for coordinating our social media engagement as well as online data management.

She is a Senior Consultant at Ekimetrics in London, working to apply a combination of economic theory and data science to answer a wide range of strategic and operational business problems, with a specific focus on data transformation. She graduated with a MA (Hons) in Economics and Statistics from the University of Edinburgh and holds a MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.
